The Regional Transportation Authority (RTA) has begun work with the Village of Cary to complete a Downtown Strategic Plan.
The goal is to encourage private reinvestment near the Metra station by creating a vision for Cary that will focus on future transit-oriented land uses and infrastructure improvements.
“Downtown is the heart of our community and will continue to be long into the future. We want to continue to make downtown Cary a destination for both residents and visitors alike,” said Mayor Mark Kownick. “The Downtown Cary Strategic Plan will help to create a unified vision and identify development improvements that will foster a welcoming, safe and fun downtown while also embracing its existing charm.”
The RTA is supporting the project through its Community Planning program, which offers technical assistance and funding to local governments and intergovernmental organizations to address local planning needs that intersect public transportation and land use. Through this assistance, the RTA encourages municipalities in the region to develop walkable and more sustainable communities near transit stations and along transit corridors.
We are happy to work with the Village of Cary on a plan that will lead to more transit access for its residents, more economic development for the community, and more transportation options for all.
The planning process, which is expected to be completed in summer 2021, will provide multiple opportunities for residents and others in the community to provide input. “We welcome feedback from the community to assist in developing a plan that is right for downtown Cary,” Kownick said.
