July celebrates the anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). The ADA and the ADA Amendments Act of 2008 (ADAAA) gave civil rights protections to individuals with disabilities like those provided to individuals based on race, color, sex, national origin, age, and religion. The ADA and ADAAA also assure equal opportunity for individuals with disabilities for access to businesses, employment, transportation, state and local government programs and services, and telecommunications.
The RTA is committed to assuring that ALL riders in our region have access to and understand how to use the region’s transit system. The RTA’s Mobility Management Program helps customers with disabilities and older adults access ADA-accessible transit in the RTA region. Mobility Management staff offer the following free services for older adults and people with disabilities throughout the RTA region:
- Provide groups with Transit Orientation Presentations
- Provide transit information and RTA Program assistance at outreach events and resource fairs
- Provide one-on-one Travel Training to individuals in their communities
The RTA’s Mobility Management Video Series provides many accessible travel tips. We recently created a video that highlights the benefits of our free Travel Training program, check it out here:

We are also celebrating the ADA this month in our summer campaign: #WeCanAllAgreeonTransit. We can all agree, transit is for everyone!
