Get On Board and Go Green!

April 22, 2019

Earth day

["This week, we’re joining CTA, Metra and Pace to celebrate Earth Week, which begins with Earth Day today!\n\nAre you driving or biking? Are you walking or taking public transit? One of these options emits more greenhouse gases than the other options. Can you guess which one? It’s your car!\n\nOne of the best ways you can celebrate Earth Week is to reduce the times you use your car and take public transportation. Mass transit is the cleanest, greenest way to get around our region! If you are not familiar with the public transportation options near you, Earth Week is the perfect time to reach out to us so we can provide you the information.\n\n[gallery ids=\"/uploads/images/blog/WP-Old/2019/04/100813_086-Convert-to-Lo-Res-JPG.jpg",",/uploads/images/blog/WP-Old/2019/04/RTA_010-Convert-to-Lo-Res-JPG.jpg",",/uploads/images/blog/WP-Old/2019/04/RTA_014-Convert-to-Lo-Res-JPG.jpg","\" type=\"rectangular\"]\n\nIn addition to saving the environment, public transportation can help you save some green too! The average annual savings is $12,000 for a Chicagoland resident who switches his or her daily commute from driving to taking public transportation. When more people ride transit, their travel costs are lowered, and funds are freed for housing, entertainment and other living expenses.\n\n\"Bus\n\nPublic transportation even benefits those that do not use it! Transit saves rush-hour drivers $400 a year by reducing the number of cars on the road. Transit investments reduce roadway congestion, shorten commutes and improve freight delivery.\n\nCTA, Metra and Pace are all dedicated to reducing their impact on the environment. This year, Earth Week coincides with the statewide Get On Board Day campaign. In northeastern Illinois, the regional transit system has $30 billion of underfunded high-priority projects, and more than a decade has passed since the State of Illinois has passed a capital bill. Public Transportation funding is needed in Illinois to support daily commuters and to help reduce everyone’s carbon footprint."]
