["Yesterday we joined the Chicago Transit Authority (CTA), Metra and Pace Bus to celebrate the 12th annual Dump the Pump Day, a national initiative that promotes the benefits of public transportation and encourages commuters to leave their cars at home. Cubic Transportation Systems, the developer of Ventra™, sponsored the event by providing free cups of coffee to transit riders during the morning rush hour.\n\nDonning our orange shirts, we handed out “Dump the Pump” tote bags, “I Dumped the Pump” stickers and free coffee to thank riders for choosing public transportation. Our street teams greeted morning commuters at the Pace Northwest Transportation Center in Schaumburg, the CTA Roosevelt Station and the northeast corner of Wacker and Madison near Ogilvie Transportation Center and Union Station.\n\nWe want to especially thank our partners at CTA, Metra, Pace and Cubic for their hard work and efforts. We had a great time putting a smile on so many commuters’ faces! Check out our Dump the Pump slideshow featuring pictures from yesterday’s events:\n\n[gallery ids=\"/uploads/images/blog/WP-Old/2017/06/dtp_17_35.jpg",",/uploads/images/blog/WP-Old/2017/06/dtp_17_28.jpg",",/uploads/images/blog/WP-Old/2017/06/dtp_17_24.jpg",",/uploads/images/blog/WP-Old/2017/06/dtp_17_23.jpg",",/uploads/images/blog/WP-Old/2017/06/dtp_17_14.jpg",",/uploads/images/blog/WP-Old/2017/06/dtp_17_9.jpg",",/uploads/images/blog/WP-Old/2017/06/dtp_17_6.jpg","\" type=\"slideshow\" link=\"none\"]\n\nStarted by the American Public Transportation Alliance (APTA) in June 2006, Dump the Pump Day promotes public transit as a convenient travel option throughout the country that:\n

  • \n\t
  • Fosters economic growth: Every $1 invested in public transportation generates approximately $4 in economic returns.\n\t
  • Reduces the carbon footprint: Public transportation use in the United States reduces the nation’s carbon emissions by 37 million metric tons annually.\n\t
  • Decreases gasoline consumption: Public transportation use in the United States saves 4.2 billion gallons of gasoline annually.\n\t
  • Enhances personal opportunity: Access to public transportation gives people options to commute to work, school and more.\n
\nHow did you Dump the Pump? Make sure to tell us on our Twitter, Facebook and Instagram!\n\n[wpvideo BfVWCSxS]"]
