CTA Gets Some "Green" to Keep "Going Green"

July 28, 2016

22 RTA 0646

Congratulations to the CTA!  The U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Transit Administration has announced its selections for an expanded Low or No-Emission (Low-No) Bus Competitive Grant Program.  The USDOT press release says the "program reflects growing interest in new technology buses."

The release goes on to say that "twenty transit providers in 13 states will receive a share of $55 million for transit buses and related technology that replaces aging diesel fuel buses with battery-electric or fuel cell-powered vehicles and incorporates other innovations."

Check out the list!  As you can see, the CTA is included and is slated to receive more than $3.6 million to purchase all-electric transit buses and chargers with en-route fast-charging capabilities.

Good news for the CTA, regional riders and our environment.  Now, that's a win-win-win!
