RTA Director of Planning and Market Development Jessica Hector-Hsu

A handful of transit agency staff from our region are joining other professionals at the Transportation Research Board (TRB) 95th Annual meeting in Washington, D.C. this week.

TRB is one of the premier conferences for transportation research, policy and practice in the world.  It provides our staff an opportunity to share some of the great work that we are doing and to hear about new developments in the industry that can shape our perspective moving forward.

I’m happy to report that several members of the RTA team are there. Our own Director of Planning and Market Development Jessica Hector-Hsu spoke at a session Monday morning about how spatial and cost analysis can help inform important project work.  Manager of Corridor Planning Peter Fahrenwald is there to present findings from the Chicagoland Visitor Survey and RTA Principal Financial Analyst Tara O’Malley is also attending.

The RTA team is connecting with colleagues from across the country about topics such as the policy implications of partnering with Transportation Network Companies (TNCs), or companies that use online platforms to connect passengers with drivers using their personal vehicles; in essence, like the new types of vehicle sharing companies we’re seeing pop up here in our region.  The group is also learning about techniques for using data to better inform planning projects and tools for keeping people–riders–at the center of the work we do.

It is a productive few days and we look forward to continuing these conversations at home.
